Ijaz Butt terms curbing players’ power as highlight of his term as PCB chairman – Cricket News Update
The Ex-chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, has expressed complete satisfaction over his performance over the last three years, saying that he did his best for Cricket in Pakistan.
Talking about his achievements as the head of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board, Butt shared that even though he took many steps to bring improvements in the game, the curbing of players’ power was his biggest success.
“I have no regrets whatsoever as I tried my level best and fulfilled my duties with honesty. I believe curbing the player-power is the highlight of my tenure as it paved the way for young blood,” Butt said, while talking to a local TV channel.
The former chairman completed his three-year-long stint on October 8, 2011. After his departure, PCB’s Patron-In-Chief, President Asif Ali Zardari, handed over the reins to the banker, Zaka Ashraf.
Butt was the given the responsibility three years ago, when the former chief, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasim-Ashraf-c78712, gave up his job following huge political pressure on him.
Butt and his management remained a subject of criticism due to irrational strategies over the last three years.
During his term as the chairman, many controversies such as the spot-fixing scandal, the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan team and unnecessary changes in captaincy emerged and damaged cricket in the country badly.
The cricketing circles criticised Butt's regime, while some went far enough to call it the worst in the country's history. However, Butt stated that he does not regret anything he did during his reign.
When asked about the possible extension that he failed to get from Zardari, Butt denied that he was interested in continuing his job as the PCB head.
“I did not ask for an extension and in fact formally informed the president in September about my intentions. The president even gave me an option to get another term and later resign after 6-7 months; however, I had decided to focus on my business which
has suffered,” added the former wicketkeeper batsman who served the country in 8 Tests from 1959 to 1962.
