Ike Davis is likely to be demoted to Minor Leagues as he continues struggling on the plate - MLB
As the New York Mets lose their series to the Toronto Blue Jays, changes in the line-up can be expected. First baseman, Ike Davis can be one of the first victims. Right from beginning of the season, he has been poor on the plate.
His swings were unproductive. Occasional outbursts on the plate apart, he has failed to manage reasonable number of hits.
Davis appears to be unworried over whatever is going to happen with him. Irrespective of what goes on with the management, he will be trying to improve his swings and make sure the level being aimed is reached.
"I don't know what to tell you," Davis said. "I'm going to play here until something happens. I really can't answer questions about that until something happens. I'm not sent down yet, so I don't know what to tell you."
His batting average is among the lowest in the line-up, something the club cannot afford to witness anymore, especially as the regular season enters a crucial phase.
His hitting ability is undoubted but the fact his confidence is low and composure derailed, by playing in the Minors and working out bugs and flaws, he can turn out better for the club.
For the same reason, when it was asked from the Mets’ manager Terry Collins about his time in the Majors, nothing can be ruled out was the answer.
"There's nothing etched in stone," Terry Collins said. "We will never say something's not going to happen."
Even as Davis struck a hit in the last game and showed some improvements, there are more chances that he will be sent to the Minors. It will be hoped that he keeps improving like this until hitting a top-notch form.
The fact Jason Bay is fit and will be playing soon is another reason the Mets will prefer taking decision on him at the earliest. After all, a vacuum has to be opened to give place to a hitter who is known for his belligerency on the plate.
What is going to happen with Davis’ fate in the season is not known yet. What is known however is the fact that the Mets’ starters are putting up sup-par performances, something that can derail and hurt their season chances hugely.
