Ike Davis’ jinx continues at Citi Field despite a better overall average - MLB Update
Even as Ike Davis hits three homers and contributes nine RBIs in the season, his misery at the Citi Field continues. He is an only player in baseball with lowest batting average at home.
As he started the season, he hoped to see a change in his fate, but everything turned out just as it had been happening throughout his career on this ballpark.
The kind of hits he is supposed to generate during a middle part of the game has not come about that often from him. While his fellow hitters David Wright and Kirk Nieuwenhuis went on a rampage, he suffered a decline.
Not that he will compel the manager to pull him out of the line-up, at-least a tinge of it was palpable.
On Friday, in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he went 0-for-4 and played a major role in 4-5 defeat of his side.
Davis however is fairly optimistic for the games ahead and finds his improvements, however little they have been, as a sign that he will soon get to his groove.
Far from growing conscious of his miseries and affecting performance further as a result, he believes that this is a time for him to take a peace and show composure on the plate.
“I was hitting like .078 the other week, now I’m at [.172], so if I keep doing this in the next couple of weeks, hopefully, in two weeks I can get .250,” he said. “I’m not panicking, we shouldn’t panic yet, and I’ll get better, I mean, I can’t really see
myself getting any worse.”
Even Darryl Strawberry, former most RBI record holder for the Mets, seconds this. He stresses a need for him to show patience on the plate. Instead of rushing at the pitches, he calls for the need to get the sight right before swirling a hit.
“Ike just has to slow down at the plate. Wait,” Strawberry said. “I just think he is way out in front. He’s got to just stay back and hit it the other way.”
Season is still at its initial stages and tons of opportunities are yet to spring up. He will look to make the most of those and use them to re-establish his credentials as a powerful hitter.
