Ike Davis will not be sent to Minors even as Jason Bay prepares for return - MLB Update
The New York Mets face an issue of having to mix their line-up as some of their injured players are scheduled to return.
As Jason Bay has recovered from bruised ribs and the doctors have cleared him for playing baseball, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ike Davis are likely to be demoted.
Manager Terry Collins however clarifies that Davis will be given chances until he gets in to his groove and will not be sent to Minors. Despite a mediocre season he is going through, manager trusts in his ability and envisages a huge contribution from him
in the season.
Almost two weeks ago, Davis was being lashed-out by fans for failing continuously. By hitting a homer and helping the Mets win couple of games, he gave an impression of having regained his form.
However occasional fireworks on the plate cannot hide decline he is heading to.
When asked from Davis about his possible fate ahead in the season, he expressed his consciousness about Minor-League Prospect. He asserted his confidence to come back to the Majors soon by dint of his performance, in case he is moved to Minors.
“It has crossed my mind,” Davis uttered. “But even if they do send me down, I know I’ll be back. [But] I’m not going to think about it. If I get sent down, I get sent down. I’m starting to swing the bat a lot better and I’m still leading the team in home
runs [five]. I’ve hit some balls hard lately and haven’t gotten hits and that’s all I can do.”
Despite poor batting average of .164 in the season, Davis was able to make big connections at-times. While consistency has been his problem, five home runs and 14 RBIs he has contributed will prove a linchpin for his retention by the management.
At the moment, third-baseman David Wright possesses highest batting average in the line-up. The fact he also has struggled in making big connections and adding home runs distinguishes Davis from rest of the hitters in line-up.
No official decision has been taken as yet. As Bay is expected to start within two weeks, the Mets are likely to announce adjustments in their line-up soon. Therefore, within few more days, it can be known as to who will be making to the Minors.
