Iker Casillas: Joe Hart would be great for Manchester United
Iker Casillas declared on Monday that Manchester City shot-stopper Joe Hart can become the best goalkeeper on the planet.
The Real Madrid keeper added that the 23-year-old England international would be fit perfectly into the Manchester United first-team.
Current Red Devils number one Edwin van der Sar is in the twilight of his career as he approaches the age of 40. While the Dutch shot-stopper has said that he is not even considering retirement, several
pundits have discussed who might be the man to take over at Old Trafford.
Casillas — who captained Spain to glory at the 2010 FIFA World Cup this summer — has weighed into the debate, claiming that Hart could move on to one of Europe’s leading clubs should City fail to gain
UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.
'Hart needs Champions League football'
The Madrid custodian told the Daily Star that: “Like so many of City’s players, Hart needs to play Champions League football. If he doesn’t get it, he won’t stay. Teams like Manchester United and AC Milan
have ageing keepers and Joe would be perfect for either of them. I think it’s fine if you want to go and be part of the revolution at City. But I would suggest all players write clauses into their contract about being able to leave the club if they don’t make
it into the Champions League."
Casillas added he agrees with England manager Fabio Capello’s belief that Hart could soon become the best in the world in the goalkeeping position.
He said that: “Over the last five years I don’t think there has been a keeper close to Gigi Buffon, or myself. But from what I have seen of Joe Hart, he really can be great. When Buffon and I are well
into our thirties, Joe will be at his peak. And I expect him to be the number one keeper in the world.”
From a goalie as great as Casillas, that means something indeed.
