The Real Madrid captain has praised the progress made by their cross city rivals ahead of the derby and feels that the match will be difficult for Madrid.
Diego Simeone led Atletico Madrid have made a terrific start to the current season and find themselves in 2nd spot in the La Liga standings as of today.
The majestic form of Atletico has gained yet more recognition as the Rojiblancos are even ahead of their fierce rivals Real Madrid and that too by an eight point margin.
With both the capital sides getting the wins they needed in the Copa Del Rey in midweek, the coming weekend pits together the two giants on the same pitch to set up a mouth watering encounter for the world to see.
Real supporters may boast about the bragging rights as Atletico have never been able to beat Real Madrid in this century. The current affair is seen as something else, as winds of change can be sensed in the atmosphere following Atletico’s dominance on the
La Liga charts.
Casillas also admits that the weekend’s encounter is a very tricky one and looms as something different when compared to the past.
“It’s clear that it will be a different derby compared to others in recent years,” Casillas said.
“Atletico are coming to the Bernabeu in great form.”
Atletico last beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in 1999. The irony of the stats is such that it was also the last time when Atletico went into the derby, ahead on points to their Bernabeu rivals.
Casillas also stated that Diego Simeone’s arrival has lifted up every one at Atletico and he is the main man behind the Rojiblancos success.
“(http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058] Simeone’s arrival at Atletico has given the club a lot of stability,” Casillas said.
“The attitude has changed there and they are where they are on merit.”
“The numbers back that up, both in the cup, although they still have a match to play, in Europe and in the league.”
“They are coming into the fixture in excellent form and I think it will be a great game.”
The Madrid captain also admitted that Atletico’s position is a true representative of what their brilliant performances deserve.
