Spain recently won a penalty shootout against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 and the Spanish shot-stopper, Iker Casillas, has stated that winning over penalties is just like winning a lottery as it is all based on luck.
This is the second time Spain have humbled Italy to a defeat during the knockout stages of a Cup competition. The first defeat came last year during the Euro 2012 final when Spain humbled Italy to a 4-0 defeat in order to take the European trophy home.
La Roja were against a weaker Italian side yesterday, as their first-choice striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 filled the shoes for both and was unable to score during the night.
With Italy playing over counter attacks, it was hard for Spain to take control of the game despite having most possession of the ball. During the first half, Italy had thrice as many shots on goal as Spain, two to eight, and Italians were simply not making the best out of the chances that they got.
The game finished with the final score-line 0-0, as both teams failed to score in order to qualify for the next round. However, there had to be a winner in order to play the final of the Confederations Cup. Therefore, the penalty shootout decided the winner. After the penalties went on to sudden death, Bonucci towered one over Casillas to give Spain an advantage, and it was Jesus Navas who scored the last penalty to help Spain qualify for the final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858.
While talking about the penalty shootout, Iker Casillas stated, “Penalties are a lottery and we were lucky to win.”
Casillas also spoke about the game against Brazil as the two teams meet in the final on Sunday. The Spanish goalkeeper said, “On Sunday we will play a great Brazil side. We will have to do well to win.”
Even though Brazil is currently hosting the competition, Confederations Cup is the only trophy which the Spanish national team doesn’t have, and with this amazing work rate, they can definitely win the final to write their names in the history books.
