Il de Re, Rivedoux-plage?

I'm thinking of going on holiday to il de re in france. I would want to go to la rochelle fairly often to get to the train station, how long does it take to cycle is it from rivedoux-plage to la rochelle? Is there much at Rivedoux-plage, and is there anything going on in the evening? Would it be a good place to stay? Thanks!

  1. Hi Susan,

Yes Île-de-Ré is a lovely place to stay.

By ride you can go to La Rochelle but it will take you a long time

(more than one hour) and by night the road could be dangerous

just after the bridge. You'd rather take the bus

Have you heard about l'île d'Oléron ? If you are young it's a better place to go.

  2. Why not stay in La Rochelle and take the bus or ferry to Il de Re?

La Rochelle is really lively in the evening, loads of people about and street entertainment. Plenty of hotels to choose from too.

The Il de Re is lovely, and has the beaches. It is ideal for exploring by bicycle. It is quite quiet though. Ideal for a day trip and get back to La Rochelle for the evening.

  3. This looks a good website to start off with:  http://www.holidays-iledere.co.uk/home,4...

Seems there's a regular bus service from the Ile de Re villages to La Rochelle.
