Ilaria Bianchi captures Women’s 100m butterfly title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Ilaria Bianchi of Italy captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The Italian swimmer served notice of her talent in the 100m discipline as she remained in a comfortable lead over her rivals and secured the title.
With her gruelling efforts, Bianchi showed no leniency to her challengers and rushed her way towards the wall for gold medal.
She enjoyed a lead of half body length over her strongest competitor and raked gold medal of the event by touching the wall with a timing of 56.86 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Louise Hansson of Sweden, who remained 0.69 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall as second best finisher with an effort of 57.55 seconds.
Hansson was chased by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who stayed only 0.10 seconds apart and settled on the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 57.65 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Emilia Pikkarainen of Finland, who stayed almost 0.70 seconds behind and reached the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 58.36 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Michelle Cefal of USA, who remained 0.41 seconds apart and settled on the wall with a timing of 58.77 seconds.
Cefal enjoyed an advantage of 0.63 seconds over Martina Granstrom of Sweden, who remained prominent for sixth position of the event and submitted a time of 59.40 seconds.
Seventh spot of the event was secured by Alexandra Wenk, who was 0.02 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and reported a time of 59.42 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Katrine Holm Soerensen of Denmark, who was significantly slower from upsetting her preceding swimmer. Soerensen remained nearly four seconds apart and emerged on the wall as eighth position holder with a timing of 1 minute and 03.31 seconds.
Furthermore, Bianchi was happy with her performance in the butterfly discipline and articulated her desire of continuing the same at higher levels of swimming.
