Ilaria Bianchi secures Women’s 100m butterfly title – 2012 FINA/ Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Ilaria Bianchi of Italy secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The Italian swimmer showed no leniency to her opponents in the butterfly discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With her gruelling form, Bianchi remained prominently away from her following swimmer and surfaced on the wall for the title. She enjoyed a lead of half body length over her toughest challenger and claimed victory in the event by producing a nice effort of 57.18 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Louise Hansson of Sweden, who stayed 0.58 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as second position holder by clocking an effort of 57.76 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Veronika Popova of Russia, who stayed nearly 0.70 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as third best finisher by submitting a time of 58.42 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who was 0.16 seconds behind and transpired on the wall with the timing of 58.58 seconds.
Dekker was followed by Irina Bespalova of Russia, who was 0.06 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 58.64 seconds for fifth position.
The Russian swimmer was followed by Daynara de Paula of Brazil, who stayed 0.45 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall with a timing of 59.09 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh best spot of the race was obtained by Anastasia Lyazeva of Russia, who stayed 0.36 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 59.45 seconds.
Lyazeva was followed by Svetlana Chimrova of Russia, who tried hard to improve her position but failed to make any notable improvement in her pace. Chimrova remained just 0.02 seconds behind and finished her race in a time of 59.47 seconds for eighth place.
In addition, Bianchi was happy with her title claiming effort and articulated that she would continue her hard work to achieve the same in upcoming events.
