Ilka Csoregi, Donna Vekic advance in the Girls’ Singles – French Open 2011
Ilka Csoregi thrashed out Lea Tholey of France in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 here in Paris on Sunday to reach the second round in the Girls’ Singles draw at the 2011 French Open. The Romanian tennis-pro faced some tough resistance
in the opening set but as the match progressed her opponent lost the track and handed over an easy win to her.
Csoregi made a slow start to the contest as she struggled to hold on to her service games early in the opening set. However, she had a chance of breaking the serve in fourth game of the set which she converted successfully to even
the game score at 2-2. Breaking her opponent two more time in the set gave her the crucial psychological edge in the match. She then held on to her serve games with ease to take the set score lead 1-0.
The Romanian displayed even better tennis in the following set and made her opponent’s game strategy look completely ineffective. With her powerful and on-target serves, she took control of the rallies early and earned vital points.
Breaking the serve three times in the set, Csoregi established complete control over the situation. She smashed a gorgeous backhand winner down the line to set up three match points for her and then converted the second one with a clever drop shot that completely
bamboozled the challenger.
A satisfactory 67 percent first serve conversion and nearly 64 percent of the points on her serve allowed the Romanian to attack her opponent in the serve return department. Tholey couldn’t handle the pressure and eventually wore
out in the match as she gave away a large number of free points to Csoregi. The Frenchwoman had a number of break chances in the match but she managed to convert only one out seven which eventually played a big part in deciding the outcome of the match.
Meanwhile Croat Donna Vekic cruised to a thumping win victory over another Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet to book her place in the second round of the Women’s Tennis Association tournament.
The 14-year-old looked in stunning form as she did not allow her opponent to breath throughout the match. In the first set she broke the serve in fourth game to take the crucial game score lead. Playing very strong baseline tennis,
she pushed the challenger deep behind the baselines from where she had very answers. Another break of serve in seventh game of the set gave her complete control in the match as she held on to her next serve game to clinch the opener 6-2.
The second set also followed a very similar pattern with the Croat taking control in all aspects of the game. She kept breaking Paquet at regular intervals and fired a great serve ace to end the match.
