After coming on as a substitute for the last seven minutes against Belgium on Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has finally earned a well deserved debut for Germany.
Following a string of decent performances for the Borussians, the player was picked up for Tuesday’s final qualifier against Belgium.
Gundogan has been in fine form this season for Dortmund which prompted Joachim Low to pick the youngster for the game against Belgium. The playmaker is yet to open his account for the new club but has already created important goals which have kept Dortmund
in the title hunt.
The German manager was all praise for the youngster and guaranteed the 20-year-old a place in the final squad for the Euro 2012. Gundogan replaced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philipp-Lahm-c29929 in the 84th minute, when Germany were already three goals to the good.
The midfielder showed gratitude towards Joachim Low on providing him with the opportunity to feel the atmosphere in German colours for the first time. He also expressed delight on being a part of the first ever German side that qualified for the European
tournament without dropping a single point in the qualifiers.
While expressing his feelings to a local newspaper, Gundogan further enthused, "Sure, there was competition with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026. [However,] I decided long ago that I would like to play for Germany. I am proud that it has now become a reality. I'm so proud of my
German heritage. I know I belong here."
Gundogan, 20, landed at Signal Iduna Park in 2011 from FC Nurnberg and has eight league appearances under his belt so far. He represented his country at the U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels before making his Germany debut two days ago.
