Ilkka Hanhineva and Emilia Pikkarainen dominate in Espoo: Finland Long Course Nationals 2011
Ilkka Hanhineva and Emilia Pikkarainen put up scintillating swims in their respective events at the Finland Long Course Nationals held in Espoo, Finland, on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
Hanhineva won the gold medal in the Men’s 200m butterfly, while Emilia Pikkarainen took home the crown in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) event.
Initially, Hanhineva out-touched Mika Sola in 2 minutes and 02.16 seconds for the gold medal. Sola finished her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 05.09 seconds to secure second spot on the podium. Meanwhile, Marko Vilpponen hit the wall in 2 minutes and 06.89
seconds to claim third honours. 
Anton Dobrzhanskiy wound up fourth in 2 minutes and 07.00 seconds, while Mikko Alpola earned fifth place in 2 minutes and 07.51 seconds. Niko Korhonen was placed sixth in 2 minutes and 10.12 seconds.
Emilia Pikkarainen won the Women’s 200m IM title with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 16.93 seconds, while Noora Laukkanen earned second spot in 2 minutes and 20.09 seconds. Kati Vesala wound up third and secured the bronze medal in 2 minutes and 24.27
seconds. Janna Ovaska finished fourth in 2 minutes and 25.00 seconds, whereas Emilia Uusitalo settled fifth in 2 minutes and 25.07 seconds. Jessika Stolze earned sixth spot in 2 minutes and 26.16 seconds.
Sami Myre hit the finishing wall in 27.13 seconds to win the Men’s 50m back-stroke race, while Manu Mantymaki wound up second in 27.17 seconds. Eloranta Valtteri settled third in 27.32 seconds, whereas, Valtteri Halonen was placed fourth in 27.42 seconds.
Sergei Haukka finished fifth in 27.49 seconds and Henri Vartiainen earned the sixth position in 27.53 seconds.
Kaisla Kollanus snatched the Women's 50 butterfly event with a winning time of 27.97 seconds. Linda Laihorinne was placed second in the respective meet with a time of 28.02 seconds, while Sini Kuutamo rounded out the top three in 28.13 seconds. Heidi Karjalainen
finished fourth in 28.25 seconds, whereas, Laura Maki settled fifth in 28.40 seconds. Laura Lajunen grabbed sixth spot after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 28.45 seconds.
