I’ll Have Another moves from jogging to galloping at Belmont Park
J. Paul Reddam’s I’ll Have Another went a notch on his work tab leading toward the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes at the Big Sandy on 9 June, 2012, as he started with jogging at New York and now picking up the pace with some galloping on a rainy Belmont Park on 25 May, 2012.
The dual classic winner, I’ll Have Another was on some light training since he arrived at Belmont Park, but galloped for the first time with the multi-millionaire pony, Lava Man, and with exercise rider, Humberto Gomez.
Shortly after the maintenance break, Humberto Gomez took I’ll Have Another on the track, and with wet surroundings, the 3-year-old colt was kept well off the rail, going about his business in the middle of the track, and was pulled up at the club house.
“He was a little hard to pull up,” Gomez told New York Racing Association officials. “He felt really good. We’re happy because he came out of the last race very good. He handled the track very, very well.”
“He looked super,” said Jack Sisterson, assistant to trainer Doug O’Neill. “One thing we were looking to see how he got over the track, stride-wise, and he looked fantastic. The rider said he felt good, and he’s happy, so we’re happy.”
Bred in Kentucky by Harvey A. Clarke, I’ll Have Another is the son of Flower Alley, out of mare Arch’s Gal Edith by Arch, will have his work cut out once again, as he will face as good as 11 runners in the Belmont Stakes according to NYRA reports.
Doug O’Neill trained I’ll Have Another will be bidding to become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed did in 1978, almost 34 years without a Triple Crown winner.
His chances look promising, because the runners who went on to win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, very little number had to contend with someone like, Bodemeister, and go on to win it.
The colt is a stone cold closer, and this time with no Bodemeister to close down, I’ll Have Another will have an easier task than he has in the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
