Illegal for only one seat in a car?

Is it illegal in the state of Pennsylvania to only have the driver's seat in my car? I am trying to haul some items, and I only have the driver's seat still in it. I mean once it is emptied, can I get pulled over and ticketed/fined for it?

I couldn't find any law against it but then again there are loopholes and what not.

  1. Your car must be able to pass a vehicle safety inspection.  There is a long checklist of things they inspect when they inspect your car (like at the road stops).  Basically the laws consider that the vehcile can be driven safely and legally.  To easily find out about the car seat law, call your local state highway patrol station.  They will tell you in a minute if you can drive without the seat in place.

  2. Its probably illegal if you carry any passengers but as long as your wearing seat belt it shouldn't be a problem.

If you line of sight to rear view mirrors is restricted that could be an issue.

I guess its going to depend on how much stuff your going to carry.

I've had a mostly dismantled motorcycle in the back of a Toyota Camry after I took rear seat out.

Just remember, even DOT examiners are ignorant of all the laws and the police know even less in most cases.

  3. hey i say if it is not written down or it is in the constitution there is no reason why you couldnt do it but to be careful i would ask the local police station or court house
