Question:

Illegal immigrants and SS idea... What do you think?

What if illegals were given the opportunity to work as temporary legals (which offers greater employment opportunities and ensures legal pay rates--probably more than they are currently receiving) under the condition that a percentage of their earning's went into the SS fund. They would not receive SS during their time as a temp, but once the SS funds reaches a certain point as a result of their contributions those who participated will be guaranteed permanent citizenship and amnesty, receiving of course all benefits of a US citizen (including SS) from that point onwards. Basically, immigrants would make up for the loss of baby-boomers in the US. Kills two birds with one stone: copes with illegals and diminishing SS funds. Border control would be heightened for this time period so that others will not enter the country seeking this opportunity. I have further thoughts and details I have not included, but comments, questions, and critiques are welcome.

  1. You lost me on your idea as soon as you mentioned permanent citizenship, amnesty and them receiving SS benefits.

SS would be fine if the politicians would stop raiding it for other programs.

  2. Maybe it is a good idea, but whose to say! The major of the population would not be in favor of it anyway, its like spinning top in mud! Incase you have not notice that is an issue that is split.

  3. How about we just deport these criminals and not reward their crimes. That sounds better to me.

  4. Make up for the loss of baby boomers?  When that segment is gone the economy will boom.  I'm not going to go off on a tangent on that one, but they certainly don't need to be replaced.  And definately not by these cretens.

  5. I am pretty sure that some of that was part of the amnesty bill we defeated in Congress last year. Americans didn't want it in 1986, we didn't want it in 2007, and we certainly don't want it now.

  6. What do you do with these folks whom manufacture and distribution of high-quality counterfeit identity documents, including social security cards, birth certificates, marriage certificates, US and Mexican driver licenses, Matricula Consular ID cards, resident alien cards, work authorization documents, proof of vehicle insurance cards, temporary vehicle registration documents, and utility bills (many states require driver license applicants to show utility bills as proof of residence). Now you have illegals obtaining legal benefits without the need for your plan. Plus you do not know who you are giving what to. Border control how many decades have we heard secure borders ? It all looks good in black & white but the reality is,we cannot take in the entire world.

  7. I absolutely agree... honestly its like killing 2 birds with one stone, back in college a couple of economist friends made the claim and found that at the very least it would ease the pressure of SS for at least another 20 years..

however they assumed they never get ss themselfs

  8. A totally idiotic idea that will destroy SocSec and everything else.  Birth rates in the US have exceeded peak "boomer" years every year since the early 1980's.  Despite the supposed "impending retirement" of the Boomers, there are so many "Boomlets" (aka "Boom Echo"), that we need to create at least 2 million NET new jobs per year if there is ZERO immigration and ZERO "foreign workers" such as H1-b, L-1, etc.

Ever hear of "supply & demand"?  Well, supply of labor far exceeds the demand, which is why real (inflation-adjusted) wages have been declining for over 30 years.  Even in nominal (dollar-to-dollar comparison) terms, many occupations are paying half what they did in 1980, and that is before taking into account that the dollar has lost over half its value since 1980.

This is a short-sighted "pie-in-the-sky" view of the neophyte who has failed to think things through.  A few people fall for the notion, but it is economically untenable and morally indefensible.

  9. I will no longer be directly answering illegal immigration questions due to people reporting & removing my answers for political reasons, not genuine abuse. I have copied & pasted my views from Yahoo Answers to my Yahoo 360 blog.

It's OK if you are mediocre and sail under the radar, but as soon as you start making strong arguments, winning more votes, and touching nerves, your Q & A's start disappearing to let some "top contributor" who controls the forum win instead.

Mexican't, hahahahahahahaha.  Your avatar cracks me up, so I pasted it in my blog.  I hope you don't mind.

  10. Nice try but I'm not in favor of giving criminals amnesty or a path to citizenship.   They are knowingly breaking laws not to mention not even trying to become legal!!   So why should they be rewarded???    It would be a slap in the face to those who came here or in the process of coming here through the normal and legal process!!!!!!!!

  11. No.  They broke laws...many times multiple laws.

  12. Sorry but I don't like the idea. I'm more of an enough is enough, deport them all kind of girl.
