Question:

Illegal music downloads and Youtube?

My kids have downloaded some free software which will enable them to rip the audio out of Youtube music video. I suspect this is illegal but will this be detected as an illegal download in the same way as downloading from a file sharing site such as Limewire. As most people will be aware the six biggest ISPs have struck a deal with the music industry to send letters to people using their broadband connections to download music illegally.I am expecting that all downloads will be detected but as I do not profess to understand how I thought I would ask the question. Please, no lectures on the subject of Illegally downloading anything.

Thank You .

  1. Hi,guys, i think it is legal only the author have never claim its copyright protections:)

But if you just for enjoy not for businees benefit, you can download and edit it:)

  2. its worth knowing that everything you use a PC for can be tracked. Thats how they catch terrorists.. perverts... & not in the same league atleast in my view anyway ..illegal downloaders... yet many are sued..  But big companies are powerful & bring those to book.... its not YouTube you got to fear its big recording labels who own copyright like Warner.. Sony & Apple they don't stand back when they think copyrights are violated they just take you to court and empty your bank account.

To my mind its not worth the risk when you can download a song legally for less than a dollar...

  3. So what exactly is your question?

YouTube is not going to press any charges against people that download videos - nor will they notify their users WHO downloads their videos.

Is it illegal to rip them from the site?  Yes, but YouTube is only going to add more measures/features to try to stop the sites and software doing it, not take legal actions against offenders.

  4. If you have limewire they'll give you a warning and the you just delet it off your computer and it's all good. Plus you get to keep the songs cause there on your i-tunes. After you've deleted it you can reinstall and it's all good/ If you watch pirated videos on youtube it's pretty much impossibale to get in trouble.

  5. While using PTP [peer to peer] clients (bittorrent, limewire, etc) is detectable by your ISP, ripping music from a website like youtube is very different. All your ISP is seeing is you connecting to youtube. If you used a PTP client, your ISP would instantly know and be able to monitor how much you were downloading.

I don't know how much you want to know... but computers can make connections to each other and send information on different Ports. Different programs and services use different ports to communicate. For example, web browsers use port 80 to connect to web servers and view web pages. A bittorent client uses several ports, including 6881. Since your ISP can tell which ports you are using, they can tell which services you are using.

Basically, you won't get into trouble for downloading anything from youtube. Watch out on the PTP clients though...
