is it illegal to use a treble hook for catfish with chicken liver

I work for wildlife department in another state and it is legal to use for cat fishing but if your snagging it has to be a barbless hook, look in the fishing regulations or call a warden to check for specific area regulations.

I'd stick to the single hook securing the chicken liver using a piece of panty hose (as in some other posting)  also you can try using frozen mackerel too - they love it.

Nope. Don't really think there's anything illegal when it comes ta' catchin' cats ~ cept' maybe a 12 gage shotgun ;). However, ya' may want to take heed ta' what previous responders mentioned bout' checkin' with local laws ;)... < '( (( > <

Note: Treble hooks helps keep that Chicken liver on (your probably already aware of that) but, when it comes ta' securin' bait, there be another way one can go ie., a small piece of women's panty hose with liver (or?) wraped in it. Might even know bout' that but, just thought I'd throw it at ya' ...

This will give you all the regulations you need to know. Some regulations vary according to which body of water you are fishing in, so finding the info yourself will be easier. This website will also so you the fishing size and count limits for each body of water.

My quick lookover did not show any regulations against using a treble hook, I've never heard of it for anyother state either, but I know MS limits the size of the treble hook to a 2/0, so you might want to look at the site closely and see if Florida has any regulations like that.

no but they are a pain in the patoot to get out in fact catfish will stay alive hours out of the water.

No, it shouldn't be, however its bad for the catfish, if it takes the hook right down it can cause allot of damage,stick to a single hook and use some thread to secure the chicken liver, using trebles can be very awkward when fishing for catfish.

As far as I know treble hooks are legal everywhere, but to be safe I'd call your local Wildlife & Parks, good luck
