When I was browsing the web i stumbled on this

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/30231...

basically it allows u 2 download a load of books.

If this becomes common practice in 10 years then peoples lively hood will be ruined.

I can kinda understand downloading movies and music because they still earn money from cinemas and concerts(I know its still wrong but its slightly more excusable).

But this file contains a 1000+ books.if u consider each book worth 10$ then thats 10000$ downloaded in 2 days.

Is there anyway to stop this?

how can the government allow this p2p when 99% of it is used 4 copyinfringment. Why is the US not taking strong measures.

  1. why do you have a problem with peopel downlaoding things off of the internet it is exactly the same as if a friend gave you a program for free did you buy it no so technically that is illegal and i think the goverment should maybe stop caring about people downloading things offline and maybe deal with crimes that actually hurt people not companies that still make billions every year

  2. "how can the government allow this p2p when 99% of it is used 4 copyinfringment. Why is the US not taking strong measures."

Is it the government's place to stop this? The US IS trying to take strong measures, and people are fighting. P2P is the way of the future, there is no way to stop it. There is no head to the beast that they can cut off. There is nothing they can do to end it in one fell swoop.

Authors will find ways to make money. They will sell their books online and make them more available and cheaper among other things.

This is a matter of intellectual property rights vs physically property rights. If I have a  digital copy of your book downloaded onto my hard drive, I have stolen nothing from you. You still have your copy of the book. You have to realize digital data is just a sequence of 1s and 0s stored by magnetic orientation on a magnetic disc. You can't steal magnetic orientation.

  3. that's an invalid link

  4. well first of all, the torrent is probably a virus. DON'T try downloading anything like that before scanning it! Anyways, that probably is illegal. Why is the US not taking strong measures? I can't say for sure but heres my opinion: I think the government has tried to stop this by making it illegal but that hasn't really stopped a lot of people, now has it? They SHOULD stop these torrents/programs in any way possible. I mean i'm not the government so i don't know if they could like track the people down or whatever. I do enjoy movie/music torrents, but i've never come across book torrents... i do know they exist however. Did you download this? Also, it didn't show up when i clicked on the link, its probably already been disabled. HOWEVER NEVER DOWNLOAD ANY SORT OF BOOK TORRENTS! because 90% of them ARE viruses!! I do agree with you however, this shouldn't be going on. And just fyi, these are not at all common, but they still do exist. and don't be fooled by those! If its too good to be true it probably is!

  5. "How can the government allow this"?

Do you REALLY want the government involved in policing the internet??

If you allow them to ban one program or site then they will gain iron fisted control over anything they label as bad...

It IS a slippery slope when it comes to the internet and net-neutrality.

Bit Torrent's are NOT just used for Illegal things... You didn't look around isohunt very long did you?

They are using the torrent network to spread music in order to get a fan base... There are huge networks of FREE AND LEGAL OR ADD SUPPORTED CONTENT that is LEGAL...

If you truly think that net-neutrality should go out the window then you are a r****d that can't even take the time to open your eyes to what is happening in the greater world around you.
