Illinois High-Kill Shelter?

i'm wanting to adopt a kitten or cat from a shelter that has a high rate of euthanizing cats. i live about 2 hours west of Chicago (in Dekalb) I've tried looking online, but no luck so far.

You could try contacting a no-kill shelter and ask them.  They are always rescuing animals from high-kill shelters.

That said, I highly recommend the Buddy Foundation (no-kill) to adopt with, they are wonderful, wonderful people!  :)
