Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley, Mayor Rahm Emanuel organise hockey clinic, vow to continue support
There is certainly no limit when it comes to the love of something and this case, it is the love for the sport of ice hockey, which United States Representative for the state of Illinois, Mike Quigley, and Chicago city mayor, Rahm Emanuel, organised a hockey
clinic for enthusiast in a local area community centre on Tuesday, September 6.
Having been a hockey fan throughout his life, Quigley still has a soft place in his heart for the sport and especially Chicago Blackhawks, a team of which he is a diehard fan. He was also present along with fellow Rep. Brian Higgins from New York to watch
the final Stanley Cup playoffs game between Chicago and Philadelphia Flyers in which Blackhawks emerged successful after a long and hard 49 years.
Other than just being an avid follower, Quigley is all for supporting the community and without discrimination, letting all a chance to play this wonderful sport.
"The motto of the NHL and the Blackhawks is that hockey is for everyone, and I just thought that means you have to have access for everyone", Quigley said. "So, my goal is to help any gym in the city of Chicago that wants to play street hockey. If they want
to play it, we're going to find a way to get it to them. The Center on Halsted represents a very diverse clientele and we thought it was appropriate to provide one of the first hockey programs here".
Quigley might be the boldest supporter of the sport but there were also other dignitaries present with him on the occasion to also show that they care and are willing to help. Along with mayor Emanual, Chicago Cubs owner, Tom Ricketts and Blackhawks office
members and former and current players were also there.
No matter how hardcore of a supporter Representative Mike Quigley might be, he is not afraid to speak out when it comes to due criticism.
"I thought at the end (of last season), the Hawks were getting manhandled a little bit", Quigley added.
Hoping for a much better next season for the team, Rep. Mike Quigley had set his full concentration on not only supporting the game but also giving those a chance who can truly make a difference.
