Illinois Tollway (I-PASS) lights blue and yellow?

When I use my I-PASS transponder both the yellow and blue lights light up. I know that yellow means my account is low, but I checked and it isnt, and it is also an autoreplenishing account so it shouldnt be low. But what do both lights together mean?

  1. Both blue and yellow lights together normally mean a low balance on the account. Even if it's auto-replenishing, check to make sure your credit card information is correct on the IPass web site, especially the expiration date: if the old card expires, IPass can't charge your account until you update it.

It's also possible that your unit is starting to die. We have one of the original "brick" units with an LCD display, and it seems to always think the account is low, even when it's clearly not. If everything with your account checks out, this is probably the cause; I'd just ignore it as long as you're not racking up violations.

BTW, a yellow light by itself is for a toll violation, so hopefully you never see that :-)  A blue light all alone is a properly paid toll.
