I've been looking for a map or chart that will have all the sales tax rates for all the towns in the counties surrounding the Chicago area. I know some are as low as 7%. (Deer Park) I'm looking for all the towns in Lake County, McHenry County, Dupage, Kane and Will counties.

I'm so annoyed with the latest tax increase that I want to plan my shopping in areas that don't have the huge taxes. I can shop easily in 3 of those counties so gas is not a major issue.

  1. Tax Rates in the Chicago suburbs are all over the place with Cook County locations being the worst. (The patronage in the Cook County government is disgusting.)

Depending on how far you want to drive, you can find a 7% rate in several places.

Deer Park (East of Barrington ), Grayslake, Libertyville, McHenry, and Woodstock are still at 7%

All the rates can be found in a state publication that can be found at:  http://tax.illinois.gov/Publications/Sal...

That publication also gives the rates for vehicle sales taxes. If you are buying a car be advised that the government will send you a tax bill for where you live - not where you buy your car. Technically they can come after you for other taxes too but I've never heard of that happening.
