  1. Literacy:

    Total population: 94.1%

    male: 93.9%

    female: 94.4% (2002 est.)

This would make the number of Illiterates 5.9%. This is according to the CIA.

  2. I am a gringo and have lived in Puerto Rico for 13 years. I have four children who are all honor students and speak and write both English and Spainish. Two of my children speak a third language "Madrian" Most of the island speaks and understands english and the rate of college graduates is one of the highest in the nation. The literacy rate is 94.1 however the unemployment rate is high compared to the US. The murder rate is the highest among all 50 states. The school system in PR are similar to those in the US when it comes to Urban areas. Most students in the major cities that come from broken homes have the worst time when it come to education.

  3. well there are approximately 3 million people living in PR. and believe it or not been that PR is a partly a state of the US people over there are fairly well educated, its like asking how many people in your state are illiterate. i would say about 5 - 8 thousand are either total or partly illiterates.

  4. Less than in the main land  that's  for  sure...

  5. Here's a direct quote from this link below:

The school drop-out rate is massive: 20,000 minors of 5 to 17 years of age, annually. Illiteracy is 33% (10% real, 23% functional), or 1.1 million.

There has been an accelerated proliferation of private schools of questionable quality.

  6. Wrong, it's 94%. Better than many of the mainland states. Too bad they don't teach common sense in mainland schools.
