how many of you think this is a real issue that exists and how would you, if you had the means, test whether or not overuse of pesticides is at least partially due to illitracy... would you follow two groups of farmers (illitrate and educated) over a period of time.. other methods?

  1. reading the question I take it you have no sense of the life or trials of a farming background. Most farmers of today have either a college or university diploma of some sort and actively outsource to seminars on a regular basis. As a farmer you cannot misapply any product the cost are outrageous I am in business to make a living not waste my time over or under applying pesticides or any other product on my crops. No one gives me thousands of dollars to waste my time ,my fuel and chemicals on my livelihood and it annoys me to think that there are people like you out there who think  the backbone of this country are like that.

  2. Most farmers are trying to survive off their land and make money so for them its a source of income. If someone goes and tells them that using chemical fertilizer and pesticides is giving better yield and more money they will jump on to it.

Normally a farmer has to be most alert and experimental because a slightest mistake can cost dearly. But a good decision can give big yields, in this respect they are like company CEO's.

Stupidity is not just a farmers trait its the trait of a society that has forgotten to make right decisions given various options, this is a problem with humanity today farmers are just a part of it and we must say many have resisted the mass stupidity movement well.
