Illya Marchenko crushes Jonathan Eysseric in qualifiers – French Open 2013
Qualifying 14th seed, Illya Marchenko from Ukraine, dumped the local wildcard entrant, Jonathan Eysseric, with a breadstick at the qualifying competition of Roland Garros 2013. The Ukrainian recorded a 6-4, 6-1 score
line against the underdog opponent to reach the final qualifying round at this second Grand Slam event taking place in Paris, France.
The Ukrainian rising star showed tremendous skills to overpower Eysseric. With this victory, he inched closer towards his goal of qualifying for the main draw.
Currently ranked 124th in the Emirates Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Marchenko made a powerful entry at the Stade Roland Garros, as he drew the first blood in the opening game to take the initial lead. He squandered
his lead in the very next game but stayed calm, eventually keeping his entire serves. The Ukrainian got the breakthrough in the ninth game and eventually clinched the opening set with a 6-4 score line.
Marchenko raised his game in the proceeding set. He got the coveted break in the opening game and jumped to a 2-0 lead. After Eysseric held his serve in the third game, the Ukrainian went berserk and pulled out the set with a breadstick.
Overall, the Donetsk native clobbered a lower first serve share of 59 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 64 per cent but superbly marked 21 out of 27 points on it. He fired less aces but spilled fewer double faults to neutralise
the effect. Marchenko hammered only a single winner but managed to seal the deal with 62 points.
Next up for Marchenko is the qualifying 29th seed, Daniel Munoz de la Nava, in the final qualifying round. If the Ukrainian showed same spirit in this match, he will able to qualify for the main draw at this major clay
court event of the season.
The qualifying 15th seed, Rhyne Williams, will accompany Marchenko in the final qualifying round. He jolted down a 6-4, 6-4 victory against the local challenger, Mathias Bourgue, to advance. The American seed formulated
a lower first serve share of 64 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 71 per cent. However, he amazingly availed 33 out of 49 points on it and ruled the match.
