Ilya Trishkin clinches Men’s 200m IM title: Day five – 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships
Ilya Trishkin of Russia captured the gold medal of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) meet on the fifth day of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships on Thursday, August 11, in Coimbra, Portugal.
The 22-year-old Trishkin showered his tempting efforts in the four-lap event and earned the title of the event in a Deaf Championships Record time of 2 minutes and 09.08 seconds. His time was 3.44 seconds under the previous championship record of 2 minutes
and 12.52 seconds, made by Bjorn Koch of Germany in 2007. Trishkin’s time was almost six seconds away from the Deaf World Record of 2 minutes and 03.33 seconds, set by South African swimmer, Terence Parkin in 2000.
The gold medallist was 2.09 seconds faster than his closest competitor, Callum Ross of Great Britain, who submitted a second fastest time of 2 minutes and 11.17 seconds for the silver medal. He was trailed by Japanese swimmer, Ryutaro IBARA, who remained
just 0.02 seconds away behind Ross on the finishing wall and reported in a time of 2 minutes and 11.19 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was Trishkin’s team-member, Vitally Obotin, who remained only 2.20 seconds slower than the third fastest finisher and ended fourth, with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.39 seconds. Obotin was in a comfortable lead of 6.41 seconds over his following swimmer,
Dmytro Kheilyk of Ukraine, who emerged as the fifth fastest swimmer of the event, with a timing of 2 minutes and 19.80 seconds.
In the meantime, Kheilyk edged out his closest competitor, Philippe Oueliet of Canada, with a slight difference of 0.03 seconds, as Oueliet concluded his swim in the sixth place, with a timing of 2 minutes and 19.83 seconds. Netherlands’s Rolan Van Der Lugt
was sighted as the seventh position holder, with a timing of 2 minutes and 20.79 seconds, while Rostyslav Iakubovskyi settled as the eighth fastest swimmer, with a timing of 2 minutes and 22.28 seconds.
In addition, the winners were invited to the medal rostrum to collect accolades after the session’s completion.
