use you and me by rosie thomas that is a great song. but its only like 2 minutes so it might be short depending on what your teacher wants.

also try the slower version of a new day has come by celine dion. i love that song.

My studio has used these songs, and the solos all came out really wonderful. The ages were 11-14, so I believe they would work for you:

-Apologize by OneRepublic

-One Moment More by Mindy Smith

-Dancing by Elisa

-A Little Over Zero by Elisa

-If No One Will Listen - Kerri Noble

Personally I also like Outside by Staind, but its a different type of song.
