  1. Make home made play dough.  Bring out the rolling pin and lots of cookie cutters.  Sit with them as you roll the play dough and have fun making different shapes with them.  Its important to show them how to play.  After they get the hang of it you can leave them alone for short periods.  When they are done have them help you put the play dough in a zip lock bag and pick up the cookie cutters.  This teaches them to clean up after themselves making things easier for you and teaching them responsibility.

The more you play with them, the more they will listen to you.  Bond with them and get to know them.  The main reason children misbehave is because they are not getting enough of your attention.

Bring out the colors, markers and pencils.  Water color is fun and entertains for a long time.  Building with blocks, my preference is the sponge blocks (just be careful the 3yr old doesn't bite a piece off and choke)  sit with them and show them how to build.  Good luck! And have fun with them.

  2. Here are several fun activities.

    1. get a pair of white sholelaces for each child & some sharpies. ~ let them decorate the shoelaces however they like & afterwords you can put them on their shoes to show them off.  just make sure you keep an eye on them, or they'll have sharpie all over them in no time.

    2. pait eggs. u can make different designs using just about anything around the house. old toothbrushes, rubberbands, tape, pencil erasers, toothpicks, whatever. & after they paint them & they dry you can lightly cover the eggs w/ glue & you can sprinkle them w/ gittler.

    3. macoroni art. just pour out the macoroni, give em paper & glue & let em create. & afterwords when they're done & it's dry, you can let them paint over the macoroni to make it even more special.

    4. make pet rocks. Just grab any old rock & let them paint & decorate it like any animal they wish. they can name it & they will love it.

    5. if you have some old fabric laying around & some old sponges you can cut up the sponges & dip them in different coulored paint & let them decorate the fabric. Just be sure to wet the sponge & heat it in the microwave for 1 min to steralize it before giving them to the kids.

    6. bead neclaces. just get some ribbons & some of those big beads for kids. or you could use pencil gribers or macoroni. either way they'll have fun & they can either wear it them selfs of give it to someone special.

    7. pipe cleaner rings. just cut the pipe cleaners into 4 in strips  wrap them around their finger to shape th ring put a shank buttons of their choice on them twist & trim the ends & you have a decorate ring.

    8. decorate picture frames. You can use glue, markers, cherrios, beads, glitter, pipcleaners, watever, just use your imagination.

    9. noise makers. jsut get some empty tolet paper or paper towel rolls  let them color cover one end w/ alumium fiol & either tape it down or use a rubberband then you can put macoroni, beads, small rocks, buttons, etc in them & cover the other end the same way you did for the 1st one. & they have fun little toys that you can all have fun with.

    10. or you could just sing, dance, color, play hide & seek, duck duck goose,  tag, red light green light, quaters, whatever you can think of.

good luck & have fun w/ the little ones. ~Kit~

  3. If you have a lot of energy, have him chase you around none-stop

It should tire him out before it tires YOU out

  4. for the listening part if you tell him to do something and he doesn't do it by the time you count to 3 out loud then put him in time out (in a corner standing up and facing the wall for 3 minutes). also you could draw stuff with chalk on the side walk with the 5 year old while the 3 year old runs around (where you can still see him). you could dance around the house, play monster which is where you pretend your a monster and they run around and you can walk and try to get them (pretty much anything to tire them out not you) also mabey some games where the little one can throw things like bean bag toss baseball or just throw a ball around, that way when he is having a fit he might not throw things but if he does pick him up and put him in time out. then at the end of the day they will be tired and you guys can sit and color or you can do a story time with them or even just put on a movie and snuggle up on the couch (and mabey if your lucky they will fall asleep)

    hope that helped :)

  5. Can you take them outside?  Kids that age love to be outside, let them run around in the fresh air.  Make a rule, that they have to stay where you can see them, so they stay in your relative area, but otherwise kids have a good imagination and they'll figure out all sorts of things to do outside.

  6. Why dont u go rent a movie and then when u watch them pop popcorn and set up like a tent out of blankets and chairs and the couch and make sure u ask them if there is any movie they want to see. If is is late when u watch them turn off the lights and get them all tucked in and cozy in the living room and they will fall asleep. If it is during the day close all the blinds and turn off the lights it keeps them calm! Hope it helps!! I know it did 4 me!!

  7. Yeah, it is a lot of work. #1 suggestion is go outside. I hope that they have a yard that is safe to do that. There are so many thing that you can do outside that will keep them occupied and having fun. Sidewalk chalk, running in the sprinkler, paint the ground with water (could use sidewalk paint, but water is pretty cool, just use paintbrushes and water...they will think it is cool), bubbles, otherwise inside do craft-like projects. using scissors is good for the 3-year-old to stay concentrated, just WATCH!!!

As far as getting the 3-year-old to listen...talk to him the way that you want to be talked to. Don't yell, speak nicely and authoritively. He will listen better if you don't yell and say please and thank you. If he really doesn't listen, just do a time out....better yet, ask his parents what they do for discipline (if they do just time out in his room, or sitting in the corner, or what they do...of course, don't spank or hit on ANY occassion)

Good luck, I hope that you have fun!

  8. -hide and seek

    -coloring

    -tv(lol)

    -sprinkler outside

-go for a walk(assuming you can keep a hold of them)

    -dance(bring music or something...)

    -read(a good author: sid fleischman)

-make things with paper(kept the 6&3 y/o kids I watch busy for 2 hours)

One thing I've found useful is to bring stuff to do(depending on the home, they're ususally bored with the toys/games they have)

I brought a  pile of index cards once. That kept them busy for hours. They made pokemon cards, paper fans,  you name it.

  9. The best way to get a 3 year old to listen is to engage them in an activity. spend most of your time outside, We live in a wooded area and go in the backyard on adventure trails, finding awesome bugs, plants, sticks, and rocks along the way. Make ooblick too, get some cornstartch and some water (go outside its messy) and mix it to make a very weird texture, let them play in that for a bit and then put them in the tub or let them run in the sprinklers to clean off!
