I'm going into high school and I reallyyyy want 2 try cheerleading. But I'm sorta flexible, but not alot. Should I do a tumbling class or gymnastics class? Is it wierd to start gymnastics at 13? I'm in ballet, so I'm pretty flexible from that, but I wanna learn to do flips and stuff. I cant find any places in my area... I liv in southern California and if you could help me find a cheer camp or anything close to that, it would help ALOT!

Thanks sooooo much,

Tara :D

  1. tumbling would really help. look in your local phone book to try to find a place. also, contact local high schools to see if any of them are doing a cheer clinic that you can do.

good luck and hope this helps!!!

  2. If you are doing lessons so that you can be a better cheerleader then I would suggest taking tumbling classes because you won't need the other skills you learn in a standered gymnastics class such as the uneven bars, balance beam, and vault. If you took a regular gymnastics class you wouldn't be focusing on flips as much as in a tumbling class. In a tumbling class you would spend the whole time tumbling instead of bars, vault, or beam. I don't think it's weird to start gymnastics at 13, as long as you're not being unrealisitc by saying I'M GONNA BE IN THE OLYMPICS YAY!!! If you want to be a cheerleader I would suggest working on your strength and flexibility at home in addition to your tumbling/gymnastics class. You should work on the splits every day and exercise at home to build up your muscles.

  3. If you have to choose between those two, look for tumbling classes.  I would suggest looking for a cheerleading Gym - you will be able to learn not only tumbling, but all the cheer motions, techniques, etc.  Most of the cheer gyms also have all-star squads that compete at various levels, and you should be able to do both school & all star cheer.

All the major cheer companies have summer camps.  Look at the about.com cheerleading site - tons of resources!

    Good Luck!!!

  4. California Cheerleading Camps at MySummerCamps.com. ... the best in town - we have not stop activities (gymnastics, dance, arts and crafts and so much more. ...

    www.mysummercamps.com/camps/california... - 32k -

My google search turned up a site for you...try Googling cheerleading camp in So CA...HAVE FUN...but don't get down if you don't make it...

  5. take acro!

  6. i suggest you take a tumbling class because cheer leading is mostly about tumbling and tricks while gymnastics focuses on strength..you could also take gymnastics and tumbling if you have the time and money. also go to the girls that are the cheerleaders at your school and ask if they know and good camps to go to or what would be more fun maybe you guys could establish a cheer camp!
