  1. Well how much do you weigh? How tall are you? Put those into a BMI calculator and make sure you are in the healthy category. If all you want to do is firm up, start jogging 3x a week, trust me I did cross country for 4 years and it helped me so much! Also try this website http://www.sparkpeople.com and input your goal weight and when you want that achieved. It will then give you calories per day you should be eating, and also a log to record all the foods you ate that day, along with all the exercise you did (walking included)

  2. 1) Reduce calories by cutting trans fats, junk food, processed foods, etc from your diet. Also reduce the amount of carbohydrates that you eat...and make sure that you eat (small portions of) lean protein (meat). The protein increases metabolism (the rate at which your body burns calories). Omega-3 fats are very healthy, so eat fish and other foods containing them.

    2) Replace junk food with fresh fruits and veggies. Different fruits have different health benefits. Ex: Bananas may reduce risk of high blood pressure/stroke. Spinach may reduce the risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, colon cancer, arthritis, etc. The list goes on and on. What are the health benefits of those microwave meals or Snicker bars?

    3) Exercise. You are 14, so exercise should be natural for you...riding bike, chasing friends, walking the mall, etc. Walk or run with your parents through the neighborhood. Don't ever run alone for safety reasons.

    4) Get enough sleep. At your age, your body/brain requires 9 hours of sleep. If you have good dietary and sleep patterns, your brain will be healthy, making you less succeptible to mental and physical health problems. A pattern of not sleeping long enough (and sleeping too long) can result in heart problems, depression, inability to pay attention, etc.

    5) Flaxseed is a natural seed, so it should be fine to eat. But remember, all things in moderation. Also, stay FAR away from "miracle" pills. Billions of dollars are spent every year on diet supplements...and we (the US) are fatter than ever. So obviously there is no magic pill. God only knows what these people are putting in the diet pills in order to make a dollar. Many of these diet pills have resulted in major health problems and/or death. NOT worth the risk. Even if your parents buy you something, that doesn't necessarily mean you should take it. Remember, it is YOUR body, so it's up to you to make informed decisions. Thankfully, that is easier than ever with the Internet. Just make sure to get your information from trusted sources. And the Yahoo Answers is not a trusted source. There are many medical and government-based websites out there with trustworthy information. Anyone (with bad intentions or with no background in your question) can submit answers. Would you ask a McDonald's employee for career advice? That could be who is answering you on here. See above moron who suggested that you take Ex-Lax for weight loss...extremely unsafe!

In terms of how many calories you burn just by being alive (not taking into account any exercise), use this equation for women:

    BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)

You can copy and paste it into google and it will solve it for you. Just replace "weight in pounds" with your weight, etc, first.

Then you need to adjust your BMR according to your lifestyle. If you get little or no exercise, multiply your BMR from above by 1.2. If you are lightly active, multiply BMR by 1.375. Moderately active, multiply by 1.55. If very active, multiply by 1.725.

If the calories that you consume = the calories that you burn, then you will not lose or gain weight. If you consume more than you burn, you will gain. If you consume less than you burn, you will lose weight. Just remember to keep it reasonable. Your brain needs food (fats, etc) to function...so no starvation diets.

  3. 10lbs will only take 5 weeks of healthy diet and exercise to lose. Start a healthy lifestyle now and you'll lose the 10 plus keep great health and fitness into your adulthood.

Pills are never the whole answer. A healthy, fit body comes with proper eating habits and plenty of exercise. Good luck!

  4. EX-LAX buh it'll be like h**l for the first 3 days, i think. i read it a book.

  5. yupp i completely agree with ^^

if you just cut down on what you eat (dont starve yourself)

you can see a change :)

  6. Diet pills don't work.  To lose 10lbs safely in 6-8 weeks do two things

One: Add a brisk 30 minute walk once or twice a day to your normal routine.  Jog if you are able instead of walking.

Two: Cut out 100-200 calories from your normal food intake.  That would be eating 1-2 cookies less per day or one less bag of chips or one less can of pop or one less candy bar.

Easy to do, healthy and costs nothing.

  7. A 14 year old shouldn't be dieting.  You just need to exercise more.

  8. 10 pounds isn't really a big deal, so just go exercise a bit, and those should come off quickly. Try doing morning exercises, and remember, no midnight snacks ;) Oh and those diet pills NEVER help, believe me. It's all calories in, calories out, so just watch your portions and move a little more.

  9. Take a walk around your neighborhood. Or ride a bike. Diet pills work but they leave you with all that fat sagging. So they are not good, you can just do more physical work. If you are that fat a sport may help.
