  1. Please, don't listen to your coach. He's interested in making sure you win at ALL costs. This could damage your health in the long run. Other gymnasts in the same situation have gone on to develop reproductive problems, eating disorders, and poorer overall health, not to mention you may indeed lose muscle as a result. Here's a question and answer from http://www.dietitian.com/teenager.html which might be helpful:

Q: Hi! I am a 14 year old female. I weigh about 118 and I'm 5'3". I play basketball on a team and in gym. I'm not overweight though I'd like to weigh about 110. I especially need to take some weight off my thighs. What's a good exercise program for me? Thank You.

A:  Would suggest you maintain your weight and do weight lifting with your legs to increase your muscle. If you lose weight, you will lose muscle, which will negatively affect your basketball performance.

Also, since you haven't hit your max height, if you lose weight now, you may not grow as tall as your destined to based on your parent's height. Girls reach 90% of their adult height by age 15 and if you lose some weight, you may stunt your growth which would be a real negative for a girl basketball player.

Talk to your gym teacher about weight lifting exercises you can do with your legs to build muscle for running and jumping. Think strength, not weight loss. Check out your school's weight room. There may be mostly guys there, but a gutsy girl can easily work out!

In closing, it might be useful to find an impartial physician (not connected with the sport) to help guide you in maintaining the weight that is right for you.

  2. im a gymnast too.

ive been doing it since i was 3.

    im a level 9.....im 15 and weigh 112 pounds and im 5'2.

i dont think you should loose any more weight, my coaches NEVER tell us to loose weight, we just have to know how to work with our bodys.

and for your height, its not healthy for you to be weighing 94 pounds.

i dk, id say dont do it.

  3. When you lose weight......you don't lose your muscle.....(because your losing fat around it).....if anything..you gain muscle.....

but if you want to maintain your strength(muscles) do alota weight lifting.......

  4. WOW weighing 90 pounds at 5'3'' is NOT the something to strive for to be a healthy weight!

Especially because since you are a gymnast, a lot of your weight is muscle, and If you weigh only 94 with all that muscle, then you really don't have to lose weight!

    TRUST me!

you need to be healthy to be a gymnast (obviously lol.)

    I really hope I helped

  5. I would ask your doctor (or have your mom ask your doctor) if 90 pounds is a healthy weight for you.

You don't really lose muscle unless you stop using them. If you don't have any fat to lose, though, don't senselessly kill yourself because you coach told you to lose a few pounds. Use common sense. :)
