  1. 22 isn't bad.  It's alot better than when I started. I barely ran under 27.  Now I run in the lower 18's (I haven't run a 5k in a while) and I'm running the mile in the low 5's and the 2 mile in the low 11's.  And it wasn't over a few years either.  About half a year I improved this much.

  2. It matters how much training it took you to get down to 22 minutes.  When I was in 9th grade and was 14, I ran 21 minutes and I was on the cross country team, but I was only running 10-15 miles per week.  Throughout my high school career I increased my mileage to running about 40 miles a week and dropped my 5k down to 16:30 during my senior year.  I now run in college and run 55-65 miles a week and I am able to run in the mid 15's for 5k.

There is no telling what you are capable of until you increase your training.

  3. it depends if your a boy or a girl..

    girl thats is freaking awesome!

boy.... you could use some work but u have alot of potential

  4. You will only really find out how good you are by running with other people so maybe join a club and do a race. Well done with the time though.

  5. It depends on what you're running for.  Are you trying to lose weight, stay in shape, crosstrain, or train to be a track runner?

If it's about losing weight or staying in shape, then I would say time doesn't matter as long as you're breaking a real good sweat and burning calories.  Although time is a factor, as it is indicative to how hard you're running, I wouldn't be concerned with time but rather effort.

If you want to crosstrain, then I'd fathom a guess of about 3.7 to 4.4 minutes per kilometer (6 to 7 minutes per mile).  I'm basing this off US Army standards for 18 to 22 year old males.

If you want to run competetive track then I'd say you should get that down to about 3.4 to 3.7 minutes per km (5.5 to 6 minutes per mile).  I'd recommend looking up track times at collegiate level competitions.  I'm not really sure what their pace is.  I think running a 4 minute mile (2.5 minute kilometer) is a bench mark for the best runners.  But I believe those are world class athlete types.

You'd also have to factor in whether you want to run for distance or sprint.  Sprinters are all about strength while distance runners worry more about breathing and technique.  Also keep in mind that your first mile (or km) is always faster than your second, third, and so on.  If you have a distance and time in mind, set goals for the first, second, and such.

The bottom line is know what you're trying to accomplish by running and then set a goal for yourself based on your current conditioning level.

  6. boy or girl?

  7. thats not bad. if you highschool has a cross country team you should look into joining it. train and improve you time. my first race i ran a 22 minute now im at 17s
