Im 14 and i live in australia and i'm looking for a casual job?

I turned 14 in december 2007 and i live in Australia. I'm looking for a job, but i'm not sure whereabouts i could go. I don't really want to work with food or drinks. The proper age for working in australia is 14 and 9 months but im pretty sure if i get my parents permission i can get a job. But where!

you have to be 14 and 9 months for tax reasons. unless it's a paper route, you're out of luck til then.

when you reach age, apply for a taxfile number and look at places that generally hire younger people like target, kmart, hoyts and village.

Yes generally it is 14 1/2 to work, but you can work earlier as long as your have your parent’s permission.

You mentioned you don't want to work with food and drinks, I am guessing you mean fast food/takeaway shops - but what about  Coles or other supermarkets.   My son started there at 15 - was on $7-8 an hour.  More on Sundays and public holidays.  After school and weekends are the shifts - You would usually get 1-3 shifts a week 3-4 hours each.  They do this so 'legally' there is enough time for homework etc.   They can only limit you so much work.  You also get a staff discount card for Coles, kmart - movie tickets etc... !

Try - K-mart, Target, Big W, The Warehouse, book stores, Girlie clothes stores - there is so much to choose from.

- Most of the places above you apply online on their websites, look for a link 'careers' or 'employment'.  A bit lengthy I know.... but you fill in what area you want to work etc, and they will email you jobs coming up, you can pick and choose, if you are then accepted they will call you in for an interview.

You don't get taxed for your first year of working as you will be earning under $7,000 although you do need to still supply your ATO tax file number.

hmm... how about working at a local library? it's easy, quiet atmosphere, and reading during your spare time is always quite nice :)
