A cheque can take up to 5 days to clear, so you would never get it right away.

Do your parents use the same bank?  If they've been customers there for a while and have a good credit rating you could get a joint account with them, in which case they may let you cash checks immediately. Otherwise, try Money Mart...

you can ask for a "special presentation" - there will be a charge and that still wont be as quick as you want. If the cheque is made out to "cash" and the person writing it has special arrangements with their bank, you may be able to take it to that bank and have it cashed.

A cheque takes around 7-10 working days to clear so im afraid you'll probably have to wait a bit for the money

You could try asking someone to lend you the amount while the cheque clears?

you might be able to go to 'moneyshop' or somewhere that cash's checks, there is a fee but if your desperate its worth it.

If you want a cheque on the same day go to one of those cheque loan shops. A bank won't do it.

A cheque put into Halifax bank takes 5 working days to clear but you can go to a cheque cashing shop where you have to show ID & they will give you the cash but take a percentage out of the money:)

A normal personal cheque as everyone says will take 7-14 days to clear. You can pay to express a cheque (costs about £7-10) and will speed up payment to 3 days. If the cheque is a Bankers Draft they will pay you there and then because it is as good as cash -but these are used in Business and I doubt this is what you have. Sorry- this is the disadvantage of a cheque but the main advantage is that it is yours , cash can be stolen, this can't.
