I just got my temps about 3 weeks ago along with a motorcycle endorsement....I'm really interested in getting the 1982 Honda Nighthawk 450 because me and my dad found one for 1200 OBO. It looks to be in decent shape and we hope we can get him down to at least 1000....We also checked what the insurance would be for me and (may sound unbelieveable) 125$ a year...so basically I'm asking should i go for it (because a car will be alot more expensive and insurance will be 500 a half) I cant afford something like that for transporatation ....plus....im still in school and ride the bus in the winter anyways....and I would just like some lengthy suggestions and opinions on this matter.....thnx alot if you read this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. It Sounds like you are really screwed up by this problem. Hope you could get good luck here.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  2. I’m combining 2 of my previous answers to similar questions to try to provide as much information as possible. Hope it helps

EVERYTHING is different when riding as opposed to driving.

Example, on standard motorcycle, uphill to a Stop Sign:

Come to a stop with right hand [R/H] on front brake, right foot [R/F] on rear brake, L/H on clutch & L/F on pavement. Hold motorcycle with rear brake [R/F], release front brake [R/H], use throttle [R/H] with clutch [L/H] to take off.

It is critically important to learn as many situations as possible, away from traffic, before mixing in with other vehicles. Riding courses are a great start, but rein in your confidence for the 1st 1k miles & don't even think about riding a passenger before then!

It would be easier to learn on a machine like a Ridley or one of the older Hondamatics. But even then remember you are out in the open, harder to see & easy to ignore.

First, take a riding course. Here in TX there is a 2-day course with everything, including motorcycle, provided.

Second, since there are a million used bikes out there, especially the beginner sizes, with less than 10,000 miles` on them, so shopping used is the way to go. Just don't think you need to jump on the first available machine.

Third, I would agree with you not to buy anything under 450cc. You'll outgrow it in a matter of weeks. Plus, in most tight situations, motorcycles need to power out; this doesn’t require a rocket, but you’ll want enough motor.

Above all, take your time, ride at least 300 miles out of town before entering traffic & don't ride a passenger until you have at least 1,000 miles under your tires.

  3. sounds like you got your answer.

Its a decent begginers bike (Good)

Its used as you will grow out of it (Good)

its a little old, might need more maint then you think (Not so good)

    You can afford it (Good)

    You cant afford the car.....

pretty easy choice given those facts.
