  1. Volunteer at your local grocer's or butcher shop. That way you'll be stocking the shelves with delicious steaks and chops. Mmmm....yummy!

  2. Volunteer at a University - there must be a dept of ecology or something.  You can devote your time to studying animal conservation.

  3. try the local animal shelter

  4. U Wish and Nice Lady ...  are correct. The more animals we consume, the more demand will be created for animals and farmers will increase the size of their herds. If the goal is more healthy, contented cows grazing on the hillsides, then the meat department is the place you should frequent. but don't "volunteer" there! You should be paid for your work.

Also, wear real fur! Wildlife biologists are employed by state natural resource departments which are supported by the sale of hunting licenses.  These biologists love animals and have dedicated their lives to studying them in their natural environment and using the best science to assure that these animal populations survive and thrive. Many of these biologists are also hunters.

Where I live we have an oversupply of coyotes (which are thriving because of our oversupply of white-tailed deer). Support new and stronger laws which favor hunting and you will do more than any so-called "animal rights" group has ever done. Every deer that goes into a private freezer is one less deer to be struck by a vehicle on the highway or die from disease or starvation in a severe winter.

It is admirable that you want to help animals. That's a uniquely human characteristic! Animals certainly don't care about each other.

Learn the meaning of the word "anthropomorphism" and guard against this at all times. Do not let anthropomorphic ideals be passed into law (such as the recent U.S. ban on horse slaughter which is destroying the U.S. horse industry by effectually devaluing the horse).

Stay away from the local animal shelter if you really want to help animals in the long run. These places are too often driven by people with unchecked emotionalism and do far more harm than good — but they "feel good" about it, and this hyper-emotionalism, in effect, becomes their life's religion. They ignore all discussion from reason and logic. You do not want, at your young age, to be influenced by unreasonable and illogical people.

I'm so glad you want to help animals. And so glad U Wish, Nice Lady and I could help point you in the right direction!
