  1. I'm thinking hard here. I don't what's it's like in Kent, I'm in the states.

Do you have your own tools and a place you can work out of? If you do think of a few simple maintenance and repair jobs you can do with limited resources. We have here a chain of car repair shops that do little more than just oil changes (such as Jiffy Lube). People here like them because they get oil change in 30 minutes or less and never get their hands dirty for $25. The mechanics there will also check out belts and hoses, switch out worn windshield wipers and other very minor repairs. People like connivance if they can afford it.

Can you do an oil change for 12-15 Pounds there and still make a profit?

I know of one man who drives to industrial campuses and does this kind of work on people's cars as they are in their offices working. He has a work van with his tools and equipment, does only minor work and charges a small premium for coming to the customer.

Would people within walking/biking distance of your home be interested in a service were you come to their place to do regular car maintenance on their vehicle?

I know this is not easy but sometimes if you can't find a job you have to make one for yourself.

  2. Kent... like Kent Washington?

Hmm, I spent the night there on a vacation once. Mechanics is going to require 18+ likely. I'd suggest looking for other types of jobs.
