  1. Draw a quick sketch of your room as seen from the doorway. Make some extra copies. Get a box of crayons and try different colors on the walls, bedding, curtains, woodtrim, etc. Try solids and or draw patterns or both, anywhere, everywhere; try anything. See what you like.

If you decide to make a dramatic color change, you'll probably need a primer (you can have them tint it,too). If the current paint is oil based or glossy and the new paint is water based, you'll need to prime it anyway.

Get masking tape, too. Anytime you have the new paint going next to something you don't want to paint, like the floor, trim, ceiling, etc., you'll need to tape the edge of what you want to leave untouched.

Whether you use brushes or rollers, be aware that they can leave marks: 'brush marks' or 'roller marks.'  I find brush marks can be a pleasing effect e.g. if all the same direction they look like wood grain, if  perpendicular they look like woven fabric, if totally radomized they look like plaster. I've tried the foam 'brushes,' but they start to lose bits of themselves on the surfaces rather quickly.

Be careful not to put the paint on too heavily or it will run like drips of goo running down the walls and drying that way forever. If you see that happening, smooth the run out before it gets too dry to spread. If you see bits of the roller or bristles or other trash, get it off and smooth the spot.

And don't forget--sometimes you can paint furniture and lamps.

  2. buy the primer , but the paint, take everything out of your room, then wash the walls the the primer you paint on the you paint the color paint you want after the primer dries. give it 1-3 days

  3. If you have plain white painted walls, then all you need is to go to  the store and buy one gallon of paint (figuring  the average 12x12 room). Behr is probably one of the better cheap brands.

Home Depot has Behr. If you go to Wal-Mart, get Dutch Boy.

  4. So match it to ur bed spread. The tape your walls so it doesn't get anywhere. also if you choose a super bright color then only do one wall and paint the rest white.  put comnfy chair and your favorite things and you will love to hang out there! Take your time. O you might want to buy rollers and a pait tray blue painters tape and maybe a med. paint brush for the edges. If your romm is a dark color u need primer . I would go to home depot and ask they r very helpful

  5. i really want to do the same thing tooo! [im 14]

if your room is already a dark-ish color, i would prime it first.

as for brands, i really have no idea. i would go to home depot and lowes and compare they're prices [or call them].

    hope i helped :]

  6. the paint at sears is very good ,or try a value hardware store ,they both have numerous sales. if you use a roller you must get one with a splash guard attached. even a pro when rolling makes a lot of splatter. you,ll have little paint balls all over everything. with a roller ,cover everything or remove from room. when working place drop cloth ,old table cloth etc on floor. place sheet of cardboard on floor under your paint can and paint tray. a spill would be disasterous. if useing a roller will need 2 coats. if you use a paint pad instead , 1 coat will work as paint is delivered a lot thicker with pad verses a roller.if your doing ceiling this will have to be painted first. then with a break brush , a paint brush cut at a angle to allow easier application of paint to edge where wall and ceiling meet. you,ll have to cut the windows, the door way the baseboard . do the edge where ceiling meet wall . do all corners . then you fill in the space between. if  the previousely color was light no primer needed. if it was dark, try 2 good coats without primer. use a primer if walls stained or dirty. also before painting wipe clean all surfaces to be painted first. maybe your parents will let you practice doing their room first. the first time you do anything , it will be slow and clumsey, but as years go by ,you,ll get better and better. always do work yourself don,t hire anyone. you,ll appreciate what you have this way ,good luck.

  7. well im fourteen and just painted my room by myself ill tell you exactly how to do it haha cuz my room turned out pretty good

use primer if you have bare walls right now but if theres paint on them you might need primer or something. if its a dark color now you might need more coats of paint

first thing you need though is blue painters tape

i use 2 inch tape to go around my doors windows and woodwork then 3 inch on the ceiling

this part is the worstt and takes a long time but trust me its worth it!

unscrew the covers off lightswitches and plug outlets and cover just the white part with bluetape

dont stick your fingers in there though or you might get electricuted

make sure the tape is down good and sticking good

follow the line of paint thats already there so when you paint it covers it all

then you need to cut in

take a hand paintbrush and paint around the ceiling and windows and every border to the tape (you only need to paint maybe a 3 inch thick line around everything)

this is so you make sure you get every spot when your using the roller brush

now pour some paint in one of those tray things and use a roller brush to paint your walls

start about a foot below the ceiling and paint up then youll have less drips

do this section by section to go fastest

trust me on this its a pain but do a second coat throughout your room and cut in a second time before you do this

then wait about four hours for it to dry and slowly peel the tape off

you might find a few spots that need touch up do this with a small paintbrush
