Im 15 yrs old and trying to volunteer!! plz help?

i would like to volunteer to help like over in foreign countries or even here. i need some help getting started though. it seems all the sites i go to only want my money. all the brochures i read only want my money too. I hope you guys might have some suggestions and could plz plz help me out....

i would first start off looking for places to volunteer in your community. you could go to food banks, nursing homes, animal shelters places like that are always looking for some extra help. another option would be to talk to your school guidence counselor they would probably know some places to volunteer as well.

Since your so young, the best way to volunteer is to look locally. Some potential places and organizations are:

1) Local Soup Kitchen (either with the Salvation Army or a church)

2) Habitat for Humanity (you won't be able to help with certain things, due to laws concerning safety of children under sixteen, and you may need a parental consent form- google "Habitat for Humanity" + your local county or city to get more information

3) Friends For Animals or another local animal shelter: walk dogs, play with animals, etc.

4)If you attend church, or your family does, get involved with some of their outreach, or volunteer in the nursery or to teach Sunday school. This can also be a way to go overseas, on a missions trip.

5) Sometimes daycares (at schools or independent), will take volunteers to read to/with kids. Just look in the phone book and start calling around.

When I was your age I volunteered at the hospital. It was great delivering the flowers to the patients, they were so happy to get them (and they smelled great!)

we did other things too like newspapers, delivering dinner.. etc

you meet a lot of great people doing that as well. Good luck!

and if you like animals, a lot of shelters want volunteers to take the pets out and play with them once or twice a day! that would be fun too.

For the USA: VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. There's also this government sponsored site (http://volunteer.gov/gov/) which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site (http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/).

definetly, first u search the poor and needy children, help them and give some clothes, what they need, and try to help all the children in ur city, and then try to go forward, but don't leave ur place and ur city poor and needy children..ok, all the best dear...

That is wonderful!  Considering your age, it would be best to start your volunteering in the States...I'd recommend looking locally first and not online.  Try the local YMCA/YWCA, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and even ask your school counselors.  They will be able to show you what options you have.  Cheers to you!

i'm in the same boat as you.  i've found a few like that that want your money (rustic pathways, global routes) but i can't find any that will let me just work.  i don't need a tour or shopping adventures.  but i did find one where you (and i, not sounding sketchy, but its true) would only have to wait a year... amigos de las americas.  it's cheaper (they raise money through a fruit sale) and it's all about the work, not just seeing the country.  that's all i can find.  i'll post again if i find anything else.
