hi,so my parents keep pushing me into choose a career to follow after high school.they want me to be a doctor or a lawyer or a teacher, but i have no interest in those things, they want me to have a wealthy life and sometimes even choose money over passion i understand they want me to have a good life, but i also want to be happy. i like to play paintball,be adventureous etc. i was thinking about opening up my own paintball shop or field, but my parents just say "try something reasonable". i would also like to be a longshoremen, with my dad being one already i can get in,but he said he wouldnt allow it when im old enough. i was thinking about joining the army and take advantage of their gi bill and college programs. the army seems to be a better choice for me since it would teach me leadership,i would be the first in my family, honor,i love working with guns and combat.

bottomline is i dont like to behind a desk, filing papers, taking phone calls etc.

being a doctor or a teacher doesnt interest me either.i know im still young and have time but they wont leave me alone about that subject

any ideas?

  1. keep it real. explore something uve been fascinated about even if its skateboarding, or just playing videogames. You could join the army but think about it-is that really what you want to do? if it is then go for it. But remember when you get a job, you have to love it. Otherwise you'll be bummed out for the rest of your life. so keep your eyes open, youll find your passion soon :)

  2. I'm going to college next year and I don't even have any ideas or clues of what I would like to do in my future. Just remember that you are the one you should be worried about pleasing, not your parents. By no means should you disobey them or anything, I just feel that I would rather spend my life doing something I enjoy rather than do something I hate, even if it means not making ridiculous amounts of money. Try talking to your parents a little more and express your feelings to them. If they care about you they should understand.

P.S. Even if it isn't the typical 9 to 5 work day that doesn't mean you can't good money. There is a laser tagging place by my house and on the weekends they probably make atleast $5000 dollars minimum. Here is a website you might want to check out. (see below)

    I hope this helps.

  3. for you, the army seems like a good choice, because you want adventure, and like guns.

While in the army, you could get an education in buisness, and then eventually open your own shop or field.

Im kinda like you, but the person pushing me to do something with money is only myself. I want something i enjoy, but i want to make a lot right out of college.

Im 16 and can't figure it out too. I thought about a pharmacist, cause they make like 47 dollars an hr, but i personally enjoy advertising, but its hard to make money in that field.

I don't know, i guees we still have time to make a choice, but not much time. As, you are suppose to know before your senior year, and thats just a short year away.

I hope you chose to do something that makes you happy.

But, i think from what you have told me, the army, or other military branch would be best for you

    Good luck with your future.

  4. I had somewhat the same problem. I don't know if this might help, but I told my parents that I'll tell them what I decide to do after I give some thought and research it.

  5. try the web site below and follow the prompts to the careers quiz

  6. You have to go with your passion for sure or you'll just end up hating what you do and failing at it, too. I think starting a business is a great idea, especially if it's something you like and are interested in. I'm sure your parents mean well and want you to be successful, so try not to be too hard on them. So for now, just try a lot of different things and see what you like or are good at. You can make it into a business later on. I'd take some business type courses even if they sound boring just so you can get some idea of how it all works and what steps have to be taken for it to work out. I wish you lots of luck!

  7. Honestly, the military may be a good option for you.  Real-life paintball.  Good benefits.  Solid resume builder.  The chicks dig it.

Do not fall into the money trap.  If you are disciplined, you can learn to live happily within your means.  I know a lot of "wealthy" people who are unhappy and in debt, and a lot of people who live rich lives because they do what they love.

  8. Even if by the time you start college you do not know what to do, for your major register as undecided major. They can help you take classes that you need to take with any major you might later choose. But go to college, it's for your own good.  :>
