  1. The state of North Carolina does not have a K12, Inc. virtual school or a Connections Academy virtual school.  Also, these schools are not homeschools--but rather they are "public school at home."

North Carolina does have a virtual public school; I am not sure how it works or if you have to be enrolled in a "brick and mortar" public school to take advantage of the courses.  However, the link is below:

Homeschooling is not the same as public school at home.  If you want to be homeschooled, first get your parents on board with your plans, as they have to agree to homeschool you/allow you to be homeschooled.  Once this is done, the first step is finding out how to legally homeschool in the state of North Carolina.  The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has this information on their website, along with instructions on how to get started in homeschooling.  The link is below:

This morning, December 25, their website is experiencing some problems, but continue to check, so you can access this crucial information.

Also, there are many ways and methods of homeschooling, i.e., online schools, correspondence schools, library books, text books, a curriculum your parents put together, etc.  You and your parents can decide what would be best for you.  However, since you are 16, perhaps you can do some research and present this information to your parents.

There is a website that offers GED prep and a college preparatory curriculum at no cost.  The link is below:

    I hope this is helpful.

  2. K12 is not home schooling; it is distance education.

If you want to do homeschool, there's no reason why you can't do that in NC. Just need your mum onside.

If you want to do distance education, there are plenty of other providers apart from K12.

Hence the lack of K12 where you live should not be seen as any barrier to you homeschooling.
