I'm 16 years old and I need a job really bad within about a week. I am in Independent Studies and I can work up to 40 hours a week if needed but for some reason no place wants to hire me. I have called after I put in an application and been on two group interviews. I didn't call after one interview but the most recent one was yesterday. Do you think I should call them say tomorrow and follow up with them? How do I appear motivated to get a job with them without pestering them? How can I land a job in a week? I'm willing to do whatever it takes but i need tips on how I should get there. I'm extremely stressed about it want would appreciate the help. Thanks...

Also, please don't make comments about laziness and that I'm 16 and should work at McDonald's. I know what being 16 entitles and all I'm looking for is tips on getting a job.

  1. Maybe try the grocery stores as a bagger or checkout. Try WalMart where you could bring in & store the shoping carts. Try mowing lawns.

Go down to the local car wash & be a car wash attendant. Try a service station attendant. Or try the local movie theater & hand out the movie tickets & snacks. I don't know. Good luck to ya!

  2. There's nothing wrong with working at McDonald's.  Ray Kroc built a multi-billion-dollar empire from one little McDonald's in Illinois.  When he died he left us many good things.  He left his family so wealthy that they will need 146 years to spend all the money that was left after taxes when he died in the 1990s.  By the way, because of having the foresight to expand his position, Ray Kroc also owned the San Diego Padres and saw his boys play in the 1984 World Series.  Another classic example of success in the restaurant business is Arturo Torres (from San Antonio, TX).  He started his career in Amarillo, TX as a dishwasher for Pizza Hut, and eventually owned Pizza Management, Inc., which he sold to Pepsi Cola for 126 million dollars.  PMI was the company that opened Pizza Huts in Beijing, Moscow and Havana.  So don't diss the "McJobs" when you're 16.  McDonald's will even send you to their school for management, where you'll earn a degree in Hamburgerology.

As for being 16, try going to your local grocery store and applying as a stocker or a bagger.  You can work up to management that way, too.
