Go for it. As long as you of working age you should be able to work anywhere. If you are truly serious any good chef will be able to recognize it. Also you can check your local college if they have a Culinary Arts degree. There are so many different choices in the restaurant business your fields of interest may change from being a chef to doing your own things. Good luck and Happy cooking.

I don't think labor laws allow anyone under 18 using things like knives or slicers. Try some food service classes. Best of Luck.

Why not enrol on a catering course in a college and look for part time work.

There's no reason you can't start now. Have you considered going to college to do a Catering course, that's probably the best way to start a career in this area. Many restaurants would be happy to take you on and allow you to go to college, at the same time. M.

you should go to college first,you'll be a fully qualified chef in 3years and get a good job,but you could get a job in a kitchen at weekends or evenings to get the hands on experience and some extra cash.

Go and ask or write your question at a reliable hotel or restaurant. Not McDonalds. They will put you right.

you want to get started as soon as possible, go to your careers office and they will help you, but think hard about it, its not as easy as they make out on tv. for the first 2/3 year the wages are very low,  I've been doing it for 25 years and still love it, so good luck.
