Im 18 and I wanted to know if that was to old to learn how to play the violin?

Is learning how to play the violin hard. Do you think Im to old to play. I know that a lot of people start at a young age. If you have any answers on this please give any good information.

um no, its just that people usually do start at a young age so that at 18 they can be pretty close to professional. if playing the violin is what you want to do, go for it

I started violin for the first time in 5th grade, gave it up for years and then went back into it. It is not as hard as you think. One of the hardest parts is learning to read notes, but that also depends on what you use. If you are taking classes, you should be ok at 18, if you are learning by yourself you would want to get someone who played or is still to practice with you and help you on harder things.

im 19 and i played for 4 yrs during middle school. i picked it up recently and started playing i remembered a lot of c**p and learned quickly again. its never too late find and do what you love

Learning to do something new doesn't rely 100% on age.

It takes determination and desire and practice.

You can definitely learn to play the violin if you wish to =)

My violin teacher teachers a 40 year old lady violin lessons (new this year!)

i have to admit, i was never one for stringed instruments.  i like to hit things way too much.  however, i honestly believe you're never too old to learn something new.  you'll probably never be a virtuoso or anything that caliber, but if you're serious about learning the violin, age has nothing to do with it.  i say go for it even though i have no idea how hard it is, though i dare say the reading music part is easier if you already learned how.

You are never to old to do anything. Go ahead and play the violin. It will be easier for you because you have longer fingers and are older and more mature. I think it would be a great experience so totally go for it!

It is never too old to do anything.If you have the determination and perseverance you can and will succeed. If you started out young you would be proficient by now but i know friends who started violin later in their teens and now are quite excellent violinists. Some even ended up in our local symphony. So go ahead and give it a shot!

You are NEVER too old to learn an instrument such as beautiful as the violin. I am 17, but I have been playing for 6 years now. I love it. My instrument is my life. I could never, and would never, stop playing even if I was offered a million dollars. It can be hard and frustrating for the first couple of years, but trust me, it is all worth it to play such an amazing instrument. (I just finished watching August Rush so I've become very inspirational tonight.)

I am 17 y/o and I have been playing since 6th grade. I love playing my violin and will make it my minor in college (Graphic Design as major). If you practice consistently (I try to practice maybe 2 hrs a day) then you will get it and you will be glad you did. I like to play the country stuff, but in school will play stuff like Mozart, Bach, etc.

Anyway, as a child (preteenish years) I never felt that I could do my best on anything. Everyone had something that they were good at and I never knew what I was good at. Well 6 years later, I have been first chair (concert master=very honored position) ever since I started and I have audition for Honor Orchestra, Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra, and my teacher nominated me for the Governor's Honors Program (sadly I did not make it). My violin is like my anti-depression drug. Whenever I'm sad, I just pick up my violin and play whatever will make me feel better. It's also fun to find pieces of music that you know by famous singers and play it on the violin.

Maybe the hardest thing you have to learn when you start out is how to hold it properly. You can't slouch, have your fingers curved (like the piano) and you have to keep your bow straight. It will hurt for a while, but you get used to it. For a few years, my fingers would turn a purpleish color whenever I finished playing, but I never got calluses. I haven't had the purple-finger color problem recently. Don't worry about it, anyway.

And whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE UP!!! It is very difficult to play when you learn ( I almost quit b/c it was so frustrating) but I kept on and now I am a very good player.
