About a year ago i was kicked out of my house along with my little 14 year old sister. She ended up moving across the country to live with my grandpa and I ended up staying here to finish school while a friend. School starts this monday and im trying to find an apartment to live at. I make around 500$ a month at my job and i get a social security check every month also.

My questions are - Can i get a lowrent thing from the goverment? or how about foodstamps? Im really scared right now and i wish i had some answers. If anyone could help me out id appreciate it greatly.

  1. um can u move in w/ ur friend

    find another job

  2. go to the the human resources office and they will tell you what to do

  3. I have no idea where you are but your school counselor should be able to help you with local information.

  4. foodstamps would definatly help....u can almost get food for free so i would do that.....usually ppl without jobs and who are 18 and over get one check a month....i dont know how much u would get but i recomend getting a very well paid job and work on afternoons and weekends....God bless and i hope this helps!! :)

  5. ay pobrecito, its not right that you and youre 14 year old sister got kicked out especially youre sister i mean shes a minor thats not right

um i guess you could well first of all get another job so you could have more money cause you wont be able to get an apartment and pay the bills with 500 dollars

and i think it depends where you live cause ther aint that many nice cheap apartments in good neighborhoods  but in ghetto neighborhoods youll probably get an ok apartment but they wont cost less than like 400 probably and so thats why you should get another job

it might be hard but youll get used to it

and you can probably find apartments in a newspaper or ads on the street

  6. Yes to all your questions, if you included the city you live in I could've helped you out even more.

  7. If you are on your own, you should be able to get food stamps. Also look into government housing. Many times there are programs that allow you to rent at little or no cost. Go to your local housing division and explain your situation. I am not positive but you will probably have to fill out the paper work for HUD, or Section 8 housing. They should be able to offer information about any government sponsered housing as well. I have heard that sometimes there can be waiting lists so do not miss any appointments that you make with them. If you are in need of food, check for a local food bank. It would be best if you went to your local department of human services and see if there are other options availible as well. I would start at the Human services office and go from there. Best of luck.

  8. you cant do it on your own, and if you do it will be hard. Buddy up with a close friend and offer his/her parents  money to look after you...

  9. Sounds like your panerts are jerks of the worst sort.

Yes you should be able to get food stamps and section 8 housing.

Contact your local social services office and they should help you.

  10. Join the Army.  They will take care of you.  When you get out, you will know how to take care of yourself.

  11. You should be able to get food stamps, but the low rent thing, I don't know.  A single person might not be a priority with them - families and single parents are, but that doesn't mean they won't help.  They might have other resources available for you.

Could the school provide you with some guidance, or put you in touch with the right people?

    Good Luck.

  12. Im renting out rooms in my house at 450 a month.

I live in Florida if that helps???

  13. You might be able to get food stamps, you have to apply.

I dont know about the rent thing.

  14. Check with your school guidance dept. and school social worker.

  15. I had the same problem, I filed for Food Stamps and got a apartment that fit my low income.. Hope things go good for ya man.

  16. Go to your local Human

Services office and apply for food stamps...then while you are there ash them for a list of subsidized housing in the area, then call them and see when they accept applications and appl....they are usually based on your income as well as the number of kids you have.....so i guess you don't have any so you apply for a one bedroom and if it's like it is you'll get it but it may take awhile...but as long as you HAVE income they'll put you as a priority because Most ppl don't have rent to pay there cuz it's LOW INCOME so they'll be happy to accept you cuz you CAN pay at least a littlt bit of rent....Good Luck and hope this helps!

  17. try squatting, i put a bunch of reference links in my source check it out. Its the act of living in an abanded building, but most squatters clean it out first.

  18. :( I'm so sorry to you!! You should look up government low-income checks that you Could get. Also look into low-income housing, they base your rent on what you make. Hope everything turns out! :)

  19. Are you in high school or college? Yes you can get subsidised housing and food stamps at your local governorment agencies. You might want to consider working at another job, such as a grocery store even, you'll be making 500 a week instead a month.

  20. i think you can appeal for financial help, simply because you dont make much, i think you apply.

  21. Well before you're out on your own..i suggest you put an add out for a roomate...then you can interview some people who apply that way you make sure you're not living with some crazy person..you can put an add for it at

    http://www.craigslist.com

they also have apartments listed there and you can type in a place with the minimum price for rent you're looking for.

a room mate is your best bet of being able to find a place and be able to afford it to.

anyways..there are subsudized appartments places..that means that rent is based according to how much money you make..look into that too..

and as far as food stamps go..i dont really dont about that..wish i could help you further.but thats as much as i know. i wish you the best and good luck!!!

  22. I'm Canadian, but there must be a national government number you can call. Then, explain your issues to them and they can give you an appropriate number to contact. Sorry I can't be more help. I feel really sorry for you and your sister.

I was kicked out when I was 16 years old, but I was already working. I wasn't earning very much money though and it was quite a struggle to get by.

  23. if you want to apply for welfare go to your local welfare agency and see if you qualify, i would suggest section 8 also but that always has a long waiting list averaging a 3 year wait if not longer....so...that's not really a good option but start with the welfare agency..they should be able to refer you to other resources for housing and things like that...good luck...and hey, it's going to be ok...most of us need help at some point....

  24. I will pray for you, and you WILL MAKE IT. Talk to a school counselor as well, they can help; and public assistance is def a good temporary option for you right now, so try to google that info up now while ur on the computer and make some calls. They have so many programs that will help you.

  25. You should have a local job center that you can go to to get help on these issues.

Also the estate agents can help you look for places to live.

    Snow Man

  26. Yeah, you can get all those things. You're 18, you're just like any other adult.

  27. Yes,you can get a lowrent thing. However,it will be more like they will find an apartment in your area that has adjustable rent based on your income.I believe you would also qualify for foodstamps but every area is different. You can contact your local CAO office or Human Resources office. They will be able to assist you further.

  28. all right. take a deep breath.

you are 18, you probably can't get much from the government except for college stuff. for that, see a financial counselor and fill out a FAFSA form.

you can get an apartment, you just have to look around. I would recommend a studio apartment (bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedroom are the same room) they are ideal for people just starting out on their own. my friend was paying $400 a month for a studio, and it had a fireplace. it was very nice.

you should make more money, where are you working?

try becoming a host at the olive garden. its stupid easy, and as long as you leave on good terms they will always welcome you back. plus the benefits are good if you move up to full time. i have worked there off and on since i was (technically) 15. my parents were both working there then, my dad still works there (so its been like12 years) and my little brother works there now too. i was making about 8 bucks an hour as a host. being a server is harder, and leaves you dependent on tips.

you can email me through answers if you want more advice, and good luck.

PS: the army is for bullet sponges, join the Navy its safer, and you can get great training. if i had stayed in, i'd have gotten tomahawk orders like the rest of my class, but i started having bone strength problems so they let me go. fixing the machines that make things go BOOM, gosh i miss that.

    Go Navy!
