  1. Sorry not from a gun shop or FFL Dealer until your 21 years old.

Some private citizen may sell you a handgun but you can't get the ammo through legal means either.

  2. if your in the u.s. you can get one as long as you have a pretty clean record. to buy a handgun you have to be 21 so your limited to rifles and shot guns. if your just keeping it around the House for protection you would be good with a 12gauge pump, just the sound spooks most people away. and its hard to miss in close range. they cost anywhere from $200-$500

you can get them at most gun stores. as for a permit check state laws. as for getting one soon, if you have the money you can get one same-day.

    good luck and safe shooting.

---i said "to buy a handgun" not to get a hand gun...

  3. I don't know about the ammo purchase.

This is a sticky one for me.

Handgun - 21 from dealer 18 from private party or gift

    Long gun - 18

    As for the ammo.

The way I read the statutes you have to be 18 to purchase handgun ammo. Some stores will not sell handgun ammo to anyone under 21.

  4. On a federal level

You can own a handgun at 18, a licensed dealer cant sell you one but you can have one gifted or buy one through private transaction

I wish this myth of the federal 21 to buy a handgun law would go away

It seems the same people tell it over and over no matter how many times they are corrected

I defy any of them or the goofs that are about to TD me to present that law here

    On the federal level

You need no permits or license to own any gun except NFA  firearms such as, but not limited to,  full auto. short barreled rifles or shotguns and silencers

Your state laws my be stricter but none will be lighter

A good entry level utility gun will cost between $300 and $600 with many very good options in the $400 range

And good for you for realizing that only you are responsible for your well being

    And congratulations to Dodger

Feels like Christmas in July don't it

    =================================

The federal law only prevents licensed dealer from selling handgun ammo to those under 21

That too can be purchased privately or gifted

  5. You cant buy a handgun. You can buy a rifle. You dint need a permit for a rifle, at least not in Florida. You can get them at gun ranges or a pawn shop. I just bought a decent rifle today at a pawn shop for $136 and I got a case and bullets.

  6. You cant get a hand gun until you are 21. You can by a rifle or shotgun at 18 check your local laws to see if you need a permit. otherwise go to a gun store. You will also have to pass a federal background check and may have to wait up to 7 days depending on where you live.
