  1. yuck, who the h**l wants a hot dog from a restaurant. Only time i will eat a hot dog is at a BBQ.

  2. i have 2 words..... GOOD LUCK! :) my dad wants to open his own pizza place but it hast been working out well .... but i really think if you keep your mind to it you can do it... and $ wize it all depends on location... attraction and how much your willing to spend... but it will cost alot at the begining but ... youll get there

  3. Since you said they are quite popular already, does the market warrant ANOTHER one?  And, if they're a franchise, you need to contact the head office .......  You also need to contact an attorney to handle the licensing; space rental; equipment rentals.  You need to have statistical information on what the expected sales would be in the area you want, to be able to determine what you need in the way of supplies......and you need MONEY to do all this with!

  4. You sound like a very enterprising individual.  There are several things I would do to begin with.  First, before investing in new equipment, see if you can find it anyplace used.  For new, check with restaurant supply houses.  Also, do not be afraid to ask some of the people you see selling the hot dogs - ask if they own or rent their cart and if they own it, where they bought their equipment from.  Second, check with Vienna Pure Beef to see how much they charge to buy their hot dogs from them in bulk as it may be cheaper to do it that way instead of buying them at Costco, Sam's Club, etc.  Check around at bakeries and compare costs for buns and buy your condiments in bulk from Costco, Sam's Club, Super Wal*Mart, SuperTarget or places like that.  Finally, do not forget to factor in the cost of your Food Handler's license and any permits you may need from you local city, village or town.

I am thinking that your initial start up costs should run somewhere between $5000 and $7500 depending on whether you are buying new or used equipment.  Personally, I would plan on having closer to $10,000 to start with so that I have a cushion for any unexpected expenses that may arise.
