  1. have your parents co-sign for you (have your parents be partially responsible for your purchases if you don't pay)

  2. Start with a chequing account at your local bank. Then applied for a secured credit card....check www.capitalone.com

Make sure you don't use more than 25% of your limit...pay in full and pay ontime

  3. If you have no income, or very little income, you can't apply for a credit card straight off.  Best luck is to get a student credit card (most companies have some version of this).  If you have a bank account, ask them if they can provide you with a credit card.  You will start out with a very small limit since you have no credit, but you can increase that as you prove you are worthy (paying it off every month).  Also, I've been told that Discover has lower expectations of people applying (it's a good first time credit card).

But whatever you do, don't get one with an annual fee.  It's bogus.  And pay off the balance every month to keep yourself in good standing!

  4. Why would you want one?  Your asking for trouble!  You don't need credit.  Some of the most successful people in the U.S. got that way by not using credit.

You can get a home loan without credit by going to a bank that does old fashioned underwriting.

You can get hotel rooms, rental cars, etc. with a debit card.

You really don't NEED a credit card.  I'm begging you don't get one.  Maybe you are one of the elite few that has the will power to use it properly (NOT!) but the vast majority of us can't.  Don't fool yourself, you don't need it.

  5. Do you have a bank account?  Depending on the bank, most banks offer a credit card.  Apply for one with them and they will probably start you out at $300 limit or less.  Build your credit and soon you will have your limit raised.  Wait a year at least before applying for another one.

  6. You aren't going to get a MasterCard, Visa, or Discover Card right away. You have to establish a good credit history.  First get a checking account and manage it properly..No bounced checks, etc.  You may be able to take a small loan from your bank and pay it off in a timely manner, no late payments. Then apply for department store credit cards, like Macy's, Target, or J.C. Penney, and pay those off monthly.  Once you have established a good payment history, the big companies will be willing to issue you a card. A steady job history helps too. No job hopping for a while. It will probably take a year or two for this to happen, so be patient.

  7. Try to build credit without credit cards.

Just take credit and pay it in time, and your credit score will be set. To avoid common mistakes while buiding credit, I recommend this one - http://freecreditreport.deep-ice.com - to monitor changes in you score and pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of payments.
