  1. Depends on what state you are from, but in AR all you need is a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. This covers preschool through 4th grade.  The college of education at my school told us what to take, and I had a wonderful adviser that kept me on track.  Good luck!

  2. K-12 requires a B.A. in education and teacher certification or licensure for the state you live in.  This can be reciprocal between states, but each state does have its own requirements for how to obtain certification.  Here is one guide for the state of NY.

  3. First of all complete your education and get at least a Bachelor's Degree.  Once you graduate, even if you don't land a full time teaching job, put in to be a substitute teacher. Yes, you will probably be put in different grades than Kindergarten, but this will help you get your foot in the door.  When there is an opening, apply!  The experience as a substitute will be in your favor.

Also, you may want to volunteer/or get a part time job with groups that work with that age of children- maybe after school programs, girl scouts, Sunday school, etc. The more experience you have and the more families with children in this age group know you, the bigger field you will have for references.   Good luck!
